1. NATURAL NUMBERS
Empecemos con
los números naturales. Veamos un poco de la historia sobre la
evolución de los números:
ORIGIN
AND EVOLUTION OF NATURAL NUMBERS
Natural
numbers are part of everyday life.Natural numbers are the numbers
used for counting or ordering things.
At
first, people counted making marks in stones or bones untill a new
system was invented: some symbols represented each number of things,
usually to count animals.
Diferent
cultures used diferent symbols. Thus, for example, Egyptians used an
additive system: adding one symbol after the other to reach the
desired quantity. And Romans had a better
system, with letters representing numbers.
The
Roman symbols were the followings:

But
were Indian who designed a positional system, that later Arabs
introduced in Europe, so it was named the Hindu-Arabic numeral
system. This was the precursor of our system of numeration.
In
our decimal number system, the value of a digit depends on its
position, in the number. Each place has a value of 10 times the place
to its right.
Each
digit in a natural number has a place value, based on its position
from the right, as seen in the following place value chart.
